What We Do

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.” - Frederick Douglass.

We seek a better, more just world, free of economic, racial, and social injustice. We know that the way to move closer to this world is through an organized, collective struggle for justice.  Below you'll find some specific ways you can join us on the path to a brighter future.

FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT: JOIN A COMMITTEE OR TASK FORCE

Our internal Committees either tackle campaigns for specific social justice demands or help keep Metro Justice running.  Our Task Forces are external organizations functioning under the Metro Justice umbrella.  For more information and to get involved with our committees, click the links below.

Hi my name is Karlie Conrad and I am currently working on my Masters Thesis project: Interrupting the School-to-Prison-Pipeline through Restorative Practices. I am trying to collect data for more current years on the school-to-prison-pipeline. If someone can point me in the right direction that would be so very helpful. Thanks!

Living in Rochester, New York has been the ultimate culture shock in RACISM. They say one thing, but easily do another. They’ll stand against you based on WHO you know and not RIGHT or WRONG. Much straining at gnats but the ability to swallow a camel is huge here. Ignoring some injustices as the fight for others…..IS the Rochester way.

I heard that Rochester is one of the most segregated Cities in the country, and is in the top ten cities for poverty. This is unexcaptable to me, and I don’t know what to do about it but feel strongly that something needs be be done. I am 68, white women, in poor health and call my self middle class but realize I am fast sinking down out of that catagory. (I don’t even make $15/hour and am not a fast food worker. I have no savings for retirement so I cannot give money, that is clear. But what can a person in my situation do to help?
